DAY 4

[Quick apology: some of the pictures came out either underexposed or overexposed. Due to time constraints, I couldn't really correct them.  Sorry.]

If you walk for 14 mother fucking hours, your feet are gonna have a bad time.

Lemme back up a bit.

This might be a bit of a long post.

Today was our day trip.
Firstly, we started off in Harajuku where we visited a shrine.

There were tons of rules and traditions to follow during our visit to the shrine, most of which I picked up from anime.
On the way to the main shrine, I took a couple of quick photos.

We finally arrived at the main shrine.
There was a nearby spring thingy that we could cleanse ourselves with.

I cleansed myself and took some more pics.
But this next one that I'm about to show you may be my favorite picture of this whole trip so far.
Here it is:

Yeah, so we went inside and approached the main shrine.
Some people went up and did the whole throwing coin > bowing twice > clapping twice > and bowing again at the shrine.

Some good luck charms were nearby.

And some good luck charms you could buy.

We left shortly after to visit the Harajuku strip where there were tons of shops on either side of an alleyway.

Some shops were variations of things I've seen before.
Others were pretty interesting.
Like a cosplay shop.
And a shop with weird English phrases smashed together on shirts.

At one of the shops, I actually bought this:

It was way too sick to pass up.
Next on the list of places to go was Shibuya.
I should also mention here that I made my first Japanese friends here!
Sorry, I forgot to take pictures of them.
One is named Kiyoto (I think that's how you spell it).  I tried with my very bad Japanese to have a conversation with him.  We talked about some anime and games and whatever else we could manage.
The other is named Erika (also a guess at how you spell it).  The way I talked to her was that she was trying to tell Demetri about her favorite place around Tokyo and she said Ikebukuro.  I butted in and I said that I knew that place from Durarara.  She was super shocked and excited and pretty much said in Japanese, "You know Durarara?! Wow, that's really strange."  I hope I get to see them again soon, cuz they both go to the school that I'm going to right now.

Anyways we arrived at Shibuya.
First thing we saw was the dog, from the legend of the dog that waited for his master for years.
I forgot the dog's name though, and I'm too lazy to check right now.

We also got to see the big crossing that we couldn't find before when we were in Shibuya.

First thing on the list was to find a place to eat.
Kiyoto and Erika led the way.
Oh, as it turns out I kind of have a picture of Kiyoto (and maybe Erika, I can't tell.)

The place we ended up going to was a sukiyaki place.  All you can eat for 90 minutes.

I ate so much that I had to take a shit an hour later.  No joke.
It was really good though.  Some of the best food I've had yet in Japan.

We didn't really have a whole lot to do in Shibuya since I already saw what I wanted to see (the dog and the crossing) and everyone else didn't really feel like shopping (which is what Shibuya is famous for) so we just walked around towards the general direction of the train station.
Nearby we saw this ominous looking staircase.

We decided to follow it down, seeing as there was nothing better to do.
Inside we found TONS AND TONS of manga.  Some of the most obscure series I've ever seen.
Also TONS of posters and figurines and models.
Also TONS of art books and graphic books of different series.
It was too insane, but I was too busy having stomach trouble to enjoy it fully.
Eventually we got the hell out and the group decided that they wanted to go to Odaiba.
The train ride there was outdoors which was nice.
It allowed me to take these pictures:

We got to our stop and I found something very, very, very familiar in the distance.

Do you know what it is?
It's the building that Comiket is held at every year!
It was too bad we didn't get to get up close to it, but just seeing it for real was awesome.
We had a whole shitload of things to do at Odaiba so it was time to get started.

But on the way we were distracted by a few cool lookin' things.

Just like in Pokemon!

What, are we in Las Vegas now?

Gundam wall just like at AX!

A bunch of Hello Kitty shit.

I'm pretty sure this was the same bridge in AnoHana, am I wrong?
So we finally arrived at our first destination in Odaiba.
THE GIANT GUNDAM.

There was also like a bunch of caution stickers on the sides, I dunno if that was intentional or not.

And would you look at the way the sun hits his ass?

Right next to the giant gundam was a Gundam Cafe.
It was pretty much just a souvenir shop based around the Gundam universe.

Afterwards, Kevin found a sign nearby that had UNIQLO on it.
I had no idea what that was but we all went into the mall that had it.

This was pretty much our rest time since other people were trying on clothes and stuff.
I was beat already.
We walked EVERYWHERE.
But the day wasn't even halfway.
Maybe a little under half, actually.

Finally, whoever was looking around there came out and we could go on to our next destination, Fuji Television: one of the famous spots in Odaiba.

You may recognize that little eye symbol on the corner of your anime.

Originally we had planned to go to an indoor amusement park called Joypolis, but it was under construction for a couple of weeks.
It looks sick though.  They even have a ride based on Miles Edgeworth (just for you, Joyce).

Demetri wanted to go to the Odaiba onsen.  I wasn't that down to go, since I didn't want to be in the bath and then get dressed in my sweaty clothes again.  Kevin was down to go with him though, so we made plans to split up into small groups.

On the way back, we ran into some really cool sights.

One of which was a mini Statue of Liberty.

And a walkway.

Maaike, Nathan, Josh, and Eric and I decided to go into a nearby Toys R us to check out what it would be like in Japan.
It did not disappoint.

Yes, they sell LIVE stag beetles in Toys R Us.  Only in Japan.

On the way out we found a cat cafe and a pet shop.

When we finally went outside, I found a BREATHTAKING sunset.
I'm not really a big one for sunsets, but DAMN.

By this time our feet were killing us and all we wanted to do was get back.
Jokingly, I said, "Let's go back to Akiba."
They took it seriously.
Fuck you, brain.

We went back to the hotel to get some food and drop off some stuff and next thing you know, BAM, we're in Akihabara.  Again.

My main goal was to get the figurines and stuff I couldn't do before.
So we stopped by all the arcades in search of the perfect prizes.
There was something funny that happened with Eric.
We told him exactly where to put the claw on the claw machine.
He grabbed the prize, lifted it up, and then...

I don't think I've ever laughed so hard in my entire life.

Josh ended up winning a Fate/Zero figurine of Saber. Gratz to him.

We looked around multiple arcades until finally stumbling upon the one we were last at.
A note to Dennis:
I'm sorry.  I looked back at the machine that had Azunyan and I saw that 1 play was 200 yen and 3 plays were 500 yen, whereas most of the other machines was 100 yen for 1 play and 500 yen for 6 plays.  I didn't want to risk blowing out my wallet, so I didn't take the chance, I'm sorry.  But I'll make it up to you somehow.

There was also a pretty funny thing printed on the bag.
For all you grammar nazis.

I picked some prizes that I wanted to aim for and I spent over 3000 yen.
No success at all.
I left empty handed, just like I did the night before.
Sigh...

*hehe*

SIIIIKEEE
Did you think I'd fail so easily?
Hell no, I'm a freaken winner, of COURSE I brought something back.
In fact, I brought THREE things back.
ALL FOR UNDER 3000 YEN!!!

WHAT'S MOTHERFATHER GOOD???

I felt so happy and my blistering feet were nothing to me now.
I finally won at something.

It was getting late, so we decided to walk back.
On the way back we stopped by another sex shop.
This one is for the boys back home.

MY FEET FREAKEN HURT LIKE HELL.

Sorry if this post seemed kind of rushed.
I had to hurry to finish it because I need to get to sleep, since I have a class at 9:10 AM tomorrow.
I may have to insert some postscripts to the Day 5 post about Day 4 in case I forgot something I wanted to say, but for now, POICE.

AND HAPPY 4TH OF JULY!
