DAY 16

Today was very unexpected.

It went from trying to find food, to going to a famous place spontaneously.

First of all, I woke up around the same time that I did yesterday.
Kevin, Demetri, and I went out to go find food.
We eventually ended up at a donkatsu place.
I forgot my camera, but I'll probably go back later to get pictures.
It was good (did I really need to say that?).

Anyways we got back and by that time the maids were making up our rooms so Demetri and I camped out in Eric's room.
When we heard a knock.

Nathan and Josh were at the door and they asked us if we wanted to go to Disney Sea.
Peer pressure caused all 3 of us to join in the group.

If you're not familiar with Disney Sea, it's kind of like the Japan equivalent of California Adventure, in that it doesn't have a lot of Disney themed rides, but is nevertheless part of the Disney theme parks.

It was VERY much a YOLO moment (as much as I hate to use that phrase).
Even Demetri said "YOLO" to me and I had to slap him (because he told me to slap him if he ever said that, and he said it cuz he forgot).
We just kind of went with the flow.

It was me, Demetri, Eric, Josh, Nathan, Maaike, Lauren, and Lali.
We went with Teresa to the train station cuz she was also going out, but not where we were going.
We took a subway one stop and took a bus the rest of the way there.

We finally arrived!
But only to the tram station that would take us the rest of the way.

The train arrived.
It was interesting to see the grips shaped like Mickey Mouse.

The group was literally taking pictures of every fucking single little thing.
You just gotta ask yourself, "Is this worth 3 MB on my card?"
No...most of the time it's not.

I didn't really know what to expect out of Disney Sea.
But we got there soon enough so I could finally find out.

It was a little under 5000 yen, since we got there at around 3ish and the prices were cheaper.

This is what the entrance looked like:

The park layout was fairly straightforward (kind of like a donut around a lake).
We walked around while trying to plan out the next 7-8 hours.

I focused on the wrong thing here LOL.

Check out what it says on the plane.

Our first stop was to the Indiana Jones ride.
Yeah they had an Indiana Jones ride, but it was modeled after the recent movie, the Crystal Skull.

Before we went into the line, we scouted out another nearby ride, Raging Spirits, and decided to pick up a fast pass for it.

We passed by this on the way to the fast pass area:

Fire on top of water.
I yelled, "THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!"
To which Lali replied, "It's Disneyland, anything is possible!"
Touche.

So we got our damn fast passes, got the hell out, and went back to Indiana Jones.
Do you guys remember the line inside Indiana Jones in the California Disneyland?
It was nice and interesting.
This one was similar.

The actual ride itself was very similar to the ride in California, with two major differences.
1) The ride was modeled after the Crystal Skull, so instead of the idol, it was the crystal skull.
2) Indiana Jones was speaking Japanese to us and I was yelling at him to speak some motherfucking English.

It was fun and we started to explore more.
We found a couple actual Disney themed rides, and this was one of them:

We stopped by a nearby ride with a 5 minute wait time.
The group thought, eh why not, and we all went.

I have no idea who Sinbad is.
It was probably licensed by Disney only over here or something.

Essentially, as you may have guessed, this whole ride was the equivalent of any other Fantasyland ride where you ride through a story setting.
It was kind of similar to It's A Small World, as the boats we were in were very similar, and the dioramas with animatronics were also similar.

Cute ride, but they were all singing and talking in Japanese, so it was a little difficult to follow.

Following that, we went to the area called Mysterious Island, where they had two Jules Verne themed rides.

The next ride we went on was called 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

The line was also nice and interesting.

This is when my camera started to run out of battery so I had to take pictures sparingly.

The actual ride was pretty cool.
We got into these little submarine cars that were hanging from a track and made it seem like we were under water.
The side windows got a joystick where we could control a searchlight (it was dark in there).

Afterwards, we were kind of hungry.
We went downstairs to a small restaurant that sold smoked turkey legs, gyoza, and an assortment of beverages.
Almost everyone got the turkey leg (not Lali, cuz she's vegetarian).
I didn't get a gyoza, but Demetri let me try some, and it was fairly good.

Next up, Journey to the Center of the Earth!

It was thought by the group to be the best ride in the entire park.
I thought it was pretty fun, but not worth the hour wait.
Basically it was kind of like Indiana Jones, but it sped up near the end to roller coaster status, complete with a sweet drop.

The next, supposedly, major ride at Disney Sea was a simulation ride called StormRider.

Think of it as Star Tours but way better.
They let in a large group of people at a time.
The actual ride seated maybe 3 times the amount a Star Tours car would.
But before that, we were huddled into some kind of laboratory where a Japanese girl explained to us our mission.
Basically the point of this journey was to ride into the center of a storm and fire a missile that would clear it up (at least I think that's what it was).
It was a fun little demonstration that she gave us and it made the ride more enjoyable.
Like I said before, the actual ride was like Star Tours, but our mission being in a helicopter shooting a missile into the eye of a storm.
When the scene was rainy, actual water sprinkled down on us, which was freaken surprising.
The missile we shot blew back at us and it came through the ceiling (like the missile model just broke through the top of the ride, it was awesome).

It was almost time to use our fast passes for Raging Spirits.  So we headed over there right quick.
It was the only roller coaster (I believe) in Disney Sea.
It was very mild, but a fun ride overall, definitely worth the wait we put in.

They actually had a Tower of Terror here, and we decided that it would be the last thing that we would do, since the park was gonna close soon.

On the way over there, I took these pictures:

And so we finally got there!

I had never been on the Tower of Terror back at home so this would be a completely new experience for me.
(Afterwards, people told me that the one at home was definitely scarier, which makes me wanna try it out)
The story was (I think) about a man who brought back a shitload of artifacts from his explorations and one day he brought back a cursed tiki statue and he died while on the elevator, as it plummeted to the floor.

This was us (not my picture, but stolen from FB).

Nathan looked legitimately scared, which he was, as I found out later (front row, left side).

Our time at Disney Sea was done.
It was time to head back.

A couple of things before I close:

I don't know why they called it Disney Sea.
A couple of hypotheses we came up with were that it was located right next to the ocean, or that there was a lot of water related rides, and a lot of water in general.
Also, it was really weird to be in a setting such as Disneyland (or Disney park, if you prefer) and have EVERYONE speak Japanese.  The workers are very polite and the people there are all just...Japanese.
It was really funny because 90% (I'm not shitting you) of the people there were wearing some kind of brightly colored Disney shirt or Disney blanket/cape thing around their neck.  It was hilarious.

It was fun, but we had to go back.
School is tomorrow.
